Kenny Baquol first met Arielle at McDaniel College in 2014, though she didn’t show much interest in him then. She was a busy music major, after all. It wasn’t until she found out he was as nerdy as her that she knew he was worth getting to know better. After the two started dating in spring of 2015, Arielle learned that Kenny shared her love of music and was studying jazz guitar. It was the perfect combination! The topic of playing music together came up several times, but the idea didn’t come to fruition until after their wedding in 2021. After officially forming Vogelsang in 2022, the two have been using their different musical backgrounds and experiences to create a style unique to them.

Music has been an important part of Kenny’s life from a young age. Starting guitar at age 8 and recording at 15, he knew music would be a lifelong journey for him. Music is not only a route for expressing his creativity, but also for supporting causes near to his heart.

Kenny has been making his name known both as a solo artist and as the lead guitarist in Ellicott City-based rock band Downhill Uprise. He has spent the past several years performing and recording, recently releasing singles including Father Time and Change of Heart. It’s hard to pinpoint a specific musical style for him, pulling inspiration from artists across the spectrum from Pink Floyd to Alice in Chains. He aspires to have the freedom to pursue music full-time in the future.

Arielle began playing the cello in 4th grade (as most young musicians do) because there was a free rental at the school. Little did she know just how important that instrument would be for her. Music for her is a constant—when life is continually changing and shifting, music is there.

Arielle found herself active in the music scene from age 15. She remembers feeling out of place being so young recording on albums and performing at festivals, but embraced the journey until she shifted her focus to her studies in college. During that time, she would lead music at various churches, teach private music lessons, and record one-off sessions. Arielle pulls most of her musical inspiration from Alternative/Indie artists, such as Florence + the Machine and Of Monsters and Men. After a long hiatus, she is excited to get back into the live music scene.
